How to wash muslin without fear

Muslin feels delicate, but it is tougher than it looks — it just hates heat, wringing, and harsh soap.

Fill a basin with cold water and a spoon of mild soap. Baby shampoo works in a pinch. Turn the saree inside out, sink it gently, and let it soak for ten minutes. Never scrub, twist, or wring — press the water out between two dry towels instead.

Rinse in fresh cold water until the soap is gone, then dry in the shade with good airflow. Direct sun yellows fine cotton over time, and a dryer is never worth the risk. Hang the saree over a padded hanger or a clean line, smoothing the pleats with your hands so ironing stays easy.

Press on low to medium heat while the fabric is barely damp, always from the reverse side. Store folded in breathable cotton, never plastic, with a sachet of dried neem or lavender to keep insects away.

Washed this way, a Moslini muslin softens with every wear and lasts for years.
