Jamdani motifs, decoded: what your saree is saying

Jamdani is woven, not embroidered — every dot and diamond is counted on the loom.
Three motifs to know: buti (small scattered flowers), jaal (all-over net of flowers), and paar (the border band). A dense jaal takes weeks longer than scattered butis — that is what you are paying for.
Hold the saree to the light. Handloom jamdani shows tiny floats on the back; machine copies are flat and perfect.
Start with one classic: off-white with a gold paar. It works for Eid, weddings, and offices alike.
