Drape guide: pleats, pallu length, pin safety

Pleats, pallu length, pin safety — three small things that decide whether your saree stays put all day.
Start with the petticoat tied firmly at the waist; every drape fails on a loose foundation. Tuck the plain end in at the right side and wrap once around.
For pleats, gather five to seven folds about four fingers wide each, all facing the same direction. Tuck them slightly left of centre and let them fall straight — uneven pleats pull the whole saree sideways by noon.
The pallu should end between your knee and your calf for daily wear, longer for formal evenings when drama helps. If the border keeps slipping off your shoulder, your pallu is simply too long.
Pin safety matters more than people admit. Always pin through the blouse or petticoat fabric, never just the saree — one layer tears, two layers hold. Use small safety pins at the shoulder and the pleats, and keep pins away from jamdani motifs so the threads never snag.
Practice once in front of a mirror and the whole routine takes five minutes.
